The Carolina Hurricanes have made very few moves in July, only signing three players to contracts with the biggest being the return of Joe Corvo. With the team going young for next season the most interesting event happening in July was the prospects camp which included first round pick Jeff Skinner.
First off in a surprise move the Hurricanes brought back defenseman Joe Corvo for another two years at a cheaper rate for a total of 4.5 million. “Joe has be... Read More »

Jared Staal, the youngest of the four brothers, signed a contract with Carolina this summer, and he’s in Raleigh for the prospects’ conditioning camp this week. Eric is back in Thunder Bay, and is not allowing his baby brother to stay in the house. That’s rough. ... Read More »
Riley Nash to decide soon. Very soon.

The Edmonton Oilers grew tired of waiting for their 2007 first round draft selection Riley Nash to come around. He committed to playing (and, ostensibly, studying) at Cornell University, much to the chagrin of Oilers staff and fanbase. They finally shed him to the Hurricanes on draft day, and he seems to be having a slightly different attitude now. He’s suggested that he’s at least considering forgoing his Senior year at the Ivy League school for a career in the NHL. ... Read More »

In a completely unexpected move, the Carolina Hurricanes have signed free agent defenseman Joe Corvo to a two-year contract, returning him to Carolina. He will earn $2M in 2010-11 and $2.5M in 2011-12. The Canes have also re-signed defenseman Casey Borer to a two-way contract. This definitely shores up the defense and will put to rest the ridiculous rumors about Marc Staal. Full details in a few minutes... Read More »
Justin Peters re-signing highlights slow summer for Carolina

Jim Rutherford and Peter Karmanos promised that Carolina wouldn’t be active in the free agent market, and they’ve followed through on that promise. On Monday night, they announced the re-signing of backup goaltender Justin Peters. He committed to a two-year two-way contract which will pay him the NHL league minimum of $500k in 2010-11. The following season, his NHL salary will be $550k. In each season, the AHL salary would be $105k. Of this, he is guaranteed $22... Read More »

To no one’s surprise the Hurricanes were not a player in big names of the free agent market. However, I don’t think the Hurricanes fans fully expected another loss like Whitney even though we had been warned. I kind of expected either Cullen or Whitney might be back, but the only signing would be Babchuk, which is a horrible influence on the young team. In the meantime Matt Cullen signed with his hometown team the Minnesota Wild and Ray Whitney w... Read More »
